There are a few things that need to be cleared in terms of terminology before understanding how many visitors your website gets.

Terms:

Hits - Refers to the number of ‘elements’ loaded on your site. If one page has five images in it, viewing that page once adds 6 hits (one page + five images).

Impressions – Refers to the number of times all the pages on your site are seen (also simply called pageviews). Impressions are sometimes referred to as ‘hits’ which can cause confusion. Impressions are not “hits”.

Uniques – Refers to the number of people that visited your site. (numbers are unique per the visitors computer).

Now that we have the terminology cleared up, lets dig deep into your website analytics.

To check your statistics, follow the steps below:

Login to your Control Panel, known as cPanel.

If you are a OneHopWeb customer, click here to login; if not, proceed to step 3.

Once you are logged in, look for an icon labeled “Awstats“

Awstats is usually found under “Logs“; go ahead and click the icon.

After clicking the icon, select the domain you are wanting statistics for.

Once you select the domain, you should see this:

Going back to the terminology, you will see all the hits, impressions and uniques listed.

If you need assistance or require another method of tracking visitors in a more detailed fashion such as Google Analytics, click here to learn more.

The success of any website can be measured on it’s goals. Creating goals is very important. Begin writing your goals on a piece of paper, which will then become your road-map to success. If you fail to write any goals or if none exist, then your website will fail. When writing goals, be sure to be specific, not general.

The following guidelines below should help you start.

SPECIFIC: Describes what you want to accomplish or do with as much detail as possible. (don’t over-think your ideas!)

REALISTIC: Goals you know you are actually capable of obtaining. (don’t beat around the bush or go over your head, keep things simple)

CHALLENGING: Takes energy and discipline to accomplish rewarding goals. (make sure to include at-least 1-2 challenges that you can over-come)

PRIORITIZED: Sets goals by time and importance into clearly specified target completion dates.

MEASURABLE: Describes your goals in terms that can clearly be evaluated and understood.

Review your goals! Be sure to clearly understand the goals you have set. Failure in understanding your owns goals can lead to failure. If you don’t understand what you want to achieve, how do you expect others to do so?

One of the most common questions we receive from customers is “Where do I upload my website files, I’m confused with the folder structure…”

If you are using a FTP client such as FileZilla or any other similar client (click here to download FileZilla), you should already be familiar with the connection settings at the top.

To connect, enter your FTP credentials we have provided you with:

Now that you are connected, you need to browse to the following directory to upload your website and files. “public_html” which is displayed below:

Double click “public_html” or “www” folder and you will see your website’s file structure.

Upload your files into that directory; open your browser and visit your domain. Your website should now be live.
